Twana's Spaghetti Sauce

This recipe is our go-to spaghetti sauce recipe. It has evolved over the years as we continue to improve what ingredients we put in our bodies. I still have the hand written version with my mom’s name on it. She probably got the recipe off of a box somewhere. I have also been known to improvise and change depending on what I have in my kitchen at the time. But, I ALWAYS top with good parmesan.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup Zesty Italian dressing: either homemade or store bought.

1 cup chopped onions

2+ cloves garlic

1-2 pounds ground meet (beef, pork or chicken, or a mix)

16 ounces canned tomato sauce

1/4 cup parsley (fresh or dried)

1 1/2 tsp sugar, or maple syrup

salt and pepper to taste

1 tablespoon oregano (fresh or dried)

1 tablespoon basil(fresh or dried)

1 1/2 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning

How to Cook

  1. Sauté onion and garlic in the Italian dressing until translucent.

  2. Set aside

  3. Brown ground meat.

  4. Add the rest of the ingredients to the ground meat and simmer for 2 hours.

Serve with your favorite pasta, and crusty garlic bread. I also like to top with something green from my garden: basil, oregano or thyme.
